Educational Qualification
Essential: 1. Candidates must have earned at least 55% (without rounding off) of their M.Sc., M.Tech., M.Pharm., M.V.Sc., or an equivalent degree in the life sciences and related fields (biochemistry, biotechnology, bioinformatics, biophysics, chemistry, or microbiology) (relaxation will be given as per GOI guideline). Applicants who are awaiting final results are also welcome to apply; however, if chosen, they must present their final grade report prior to starting.
2. Additionally, candidates must have been eligible for any of the following nationally competitive fellowships given by the Government of India: CSIR/UGC-JRF, DBT-JRF, UGC-RGNF, ICMR-JRF, DST-INSPIRE, or any other fellowship with a five-year validity period. A photocopy of the original admit card and the specific result page with their roll number highlighted must be included with the application if the original certificate is not accessible. Applicants with score sheets are also welcome to apply, but if they are selected for further consideration, they will need to provide their certificate during the interview.
FELLOWSHIP
The fellowship and associated benefits will be awarded in accordance with the policies of the funding organizations, which include DST, DBT, CSIR, UGC, and ICMR. These policies may be updated periodically for fellowship recipients.

General Instructions:

  1. Reservation criteria will be implemented in accordance with GOI policies.
  2. Fellowship recipients will be chosen for the Ph.D. Program through a three-tiered selection process. In order to make the shortlisted number reasonable, additional criteria or a cut-off will be used if there are more candidates. Candidate selection: Online interviews will be used for the initial round. Candidates that made the short list will be contacted for the second and last round of interviews, which will take place at ILS offline. The shortlisted applicants will have the opportunity to speak with the principal investigators of their chosen lab and share their preferences. The ultimate selection will come after this.
  3. After the list of chosen applicants is posted on the ILS website, each candidate will receive an offer letter with the name of the PI allocated and the joining date. Within the allotted joining date, the prospective student must accept the offer and enroll in ILS. Should an emergency arise, the joining date may be postponed for a maximum of one month if notice is given prior to the joining date specified in the offer letter. Requests for more than one extension will not be considered.
  4. Accommodation Facility: On a fee basis, the Institute will offer lodging to applicants who make it to the last round of interviews. Subject to availability and prior notification, allocation will be done solely on a first-come, first-served basis.
  5. As of the application deadline, the candidate must be younger than 28 years old. The maximum age limit, however, may be loosened to three years for OBC (Non-Creamy Layer) applicants and five years for SC/ST, PwD, and female applicants.
  6. Candidates who submit incomplete applications, give inaccurate or misleading information, or lack necessary qualifications at any point throughout the selection process shall be disqualified by the appropriate authority. The competent authority’s judgment at ILS will be final and legally binding.
