THE DISTRICT LEGAL SERVICES AUTHORITY Koraput invites applications from qualified candidates for the recruitment of Chief Legal Aid Defense Counsel, Deputy Chief Legal Aid Defense Counsel and Assistant Legal Aid Defense Counsel in line with public defender system on full time basis. | Chief Legal Aid Defense Counsel: 1.Practice criminal law for a minimum of ten years. 2. Outstanding communication skills both in writing and speaking, outstanding knowledge of criminal law. 3. Comprehensive knowledge of the moral obligations of a defense attorney. the capacity to lead and collaborate with others in an effective and efficient manner. 4. Must have handled at least 30 criminal trials in Sessions Courts; but, in certain conditions, the requirement of handling 30 criminal cases may be waived. 5. Computer system knowledge is preferred. 6. The ability to manage the workplace and the ability to lead the team. Deputy Chief Legal Aid Defense Counsel: 1. Practice criminal law for a minimum of seven years. 2. Outstanding knowledge of criminal law. 3. Outstanding communication skills both in writing and speaking, proficiency in legal research. 4. Comprehensive knowledge of the moral obligations of defense attorneys. 5. Capacity to collaborate with others in an effective and efficient manner. 6. At least 20 criminal trials in Sessions Courts must have been conducted; in extraordinary cases, the Hon. Executive Chairman of the SLSA may modify this requirement. 7. IT expertise combined with competence in the workplace. Assistant Legal Aid Defense Counsel: 1. 0–3 years of criminal law practice. 2. Strong communication abilities both in writing and speaking. 3. Thorough knowledge of defense attorneys’ ethical obligations. 4. The capacity to collaborate with others in a productive and successful manner. 5. Outstanding research and writing abilities. 6. IT expertise with a high level of job proficiency |

Selection Process:
Following appropriate public notice and publicity, applications will be accepted, and DLSA, with SLSA’s assistance, will implement a fair, open, and competitive selection procedure. In each location or district, Legal Aid Defense Counsels will be hired under contract for a two-year term, with the option to extend annually based on good performance. Every six months, SLSA will evaluate each human resource’s performance after consulting with the relevant DLSA. Candidates’ knowledge, abilities, experience, and practice will all be taken into consideration when choosing Chief Legal Aid Defense Counsel, Deputy Chief Legal Aid Defense Counsel, and Assistant Legal Aid Defense Counsels.
As outlined in the NALSA (Free and Competent Legal Services) Regulations 2010, the selection process will be conducted by a committee chaired by the District & Sessions Judge, Koraput-Jeypore (Chairman, DLSA), with ultimate approval from the Executive Chairman, OSLSA.
