DLSA Odisha Recruitment 2025: For the positions of Chief Legal Aid Defense Counsel, Deputy Chief Legal Aid Defense Counsel, and Assistant Legal Aid Defense Counsel of district headquarters, applications are being accepted in the prescribed formant from qualified attorneys who meet the requirements for contractual full-time engagement. The contracts will initially be for a two-year term with the option for an early extension.

Qualification for Chief Legal Aid Defense Counsel, Deputy Chief Legal Aid Defense Counsel, and Assistant Legal Aid Defense Counsel

1. Qualification & Experience for Chief Legal Aid Defense Counsel:

  1. At least ten years of experience practicing criminal law, outstanding written and verbal communication abilities, a thorough comprehension of criminal law, A deep comprehension of the moral obligations of a defense attorney, the capacity to collaborate with others in an effective and efficient manner, and the ability to take the lead
  2. Must have handled at least 30 criminal trials in Sessions Courts; but, under some situations, the requirement of handling 30 criminal cases may be waived.
  3. Computer system knowledge is preferred.
  4. The ability to oversee the office and lead the staff.

2. Qualifications & Experience for Deputy Chief Legal Aid Defense Counsel:

  1. At least seven years of experience practicing criminal law.
  2. A thorough knowledge of the ethical obligations of defense attorneys.
  3. Outstanding comprehension of criminal law,
  4. Proficient in legal research.
  5. Capable of working effectively and efficiently with others.
  6. At least 20 criminal trials in Sessions Courts must have been handled; in extraordinary cases, the Hon. Executive Chairman of the SLSA may modify this requirement.
  7. IT knowledge with competence in the workplace.

3. Qualification & Experience for Assistant Legal Aid Defense Counsel:

  1. Work in criminal law for one to three years.
  2. Strong communication skills both in writing and speaking.
  3. A thorough comprehension of defense attorneys’ ethical obligations.
  4. The capacity to collaborate with others in an effective and efficient manner.
  5. Outstanding research and writing abilities.
  6. IT expertise with competence in the workplace.

List of Documents to be attached:

The applications are full in every way and come with:

  1. A copy of the certificate supporting the educational qualification that has been self-attested.
  2. A self-attested copy of the Bar Counsel’s enrollment certificate issued in accordance with the Advocates Act of 1961.
  3. copy of a self-attested photo ID and proof of address.
  4. If available, a self-attested copy of your last three years’ ITRs.
  5. copy of the rulings in five sessions in which the defense attorney (for the position of Chief/Deputy Legal Aid Counsel) represented the client.
  6. photocopies of the Chief/Deputy Legal Aid Defense Counsel’s cases from at least five cross-examination sessions.

Selection Procedure for DLSA Odisha Recruitment for Chief Legal Aid Defense Counsel, Deputy Chief Legal Aid Defense Counsel, and Assistant Legal Aid Defense Counsel

  1. Following appropriate public notice and publicity, applications will be accepted, and DLSA, with SLSA’s assistance, will implement a fair, open, and competitive selection procedure.
  2. Every six months, SLSA will evaluate each legal aid defense counsel’s performance after consulting with the relevant DLSA. Candidate knowledge, abilities, experience, and practice will all be taken into consideration when choosing Chief Legal Aid Defense Counsel, Deputy Chief Legal Aid Defense Counsels, and Assistant Legal Aid Defense Counsels.
  3. The Secretary DLSA and the individual so engaged will sign an engagement contract following approval by the Executive Chairman, SLSA.
