District legal services authority Vacancy Malkangiri: OFFICE OF THE DISTRICT LEGAL SERVICES AUTHORITY MALKANGIRI has released notification for the engagement of chief legal aid defense counsel, deputy legal aid defense counsel, assistant legal aid defense counsel for “LEGAL AID DEFENSE COUNSEL SYSTEM”.
OFFICE OF THE DISTRICT LEGAL SERVICES AUTHORITY MALKANGIRI invites application from eligible candidates for filling up the above positions on contractual basis. The interested candidates are suggested to go through the following vacancy details before applying for the positions.

| A. CHIEF LEGAL AID DEFENSE COUNSEL: 1. At least ten years of experience practicing criminal law. 2. Outstanding written and verbal communication abilities, 3. Outstanding comprehension of criminal law, 3. A deep comprehension of the moral obligations of a defense attorney. 4. The capacity to lead and collaborate with people in an effective and efficient manner. 5. Must have handled at least 30 criminal trials in Sessions Courts; however, in some situations, the requirement of handling 30 criminal cases may be loosened. 6. Computer system knowledge is preferred. 7. The ability to manage the workplace and lead the team. B. DEPUTY LEGAL AID DEFENSE COUNSEL: 1. Practice criminal law for a minimum of seven years. 2. Outstanding knowledge of criminal law, 3. Outstanding communication skills both in writing and speaking, 4. Proficiency in legal research, 5. Comprehensive knowledge of the moral obligations of defense attorneys, 6. Capacity to collaborate with others in an effective and efficient manner, 7. At least 20 criminal trials in Sessions Courts must have been handled; in extraordinary cases, the Hon. Executive Chairman of the SLSA may modify this requirement. 8. IT knowledge and work skill are required. C. ASSISTANT LEGAL AID DEFENSE COUNSEL: 1. Work in criminal law for one to three years. 2. Strong communication abilities both in writing and speaking. 3. Thorough knowledge of defense attorneys’ ethical obligations. 4. The capacity to collaborate with others in a productive and successful manner. 5. Outstanding research and writing abilities. 6. IT expertise with a high level of productivity. |
Selection process:
Applications will be accepted following appropriate public notice and publicity, and DLSA, under the direction of SLSA, will implement a fair, open, and competitive selection procedure. Legal Aid Defense Counsels will be hired under contract in each location or district for a two-year term, with the option to extend annually provided they perform satisfactorily. Every six months, SLSA will evaluate each human resource’s performance after consulting with the relevant DLSA.
Candidates’ knowledge, abilities, experience, and practice will all be taken into consideration when choosing the Chief Legal Aid Defense Counsel, Deputy Chief Legal Aid Defense Counsels, and Assistant Legal Aid Defense Counsels. As outlined in the NALSA (Free and Competent Legal Services) Regulations 2010, the selection process will be conducted by a selection committee chaired by the District & Sessions Judge, Malkangiri (Chairman, DLSA, Malkangiri), with ultimate permission from the Executive Chairman, OSLSA.
