Eligibility Criteria (ଯୋଗ୍ୟତା ମାପଦଣ୍ଡ)

Age Limit (As on 1st day of January, 2026):

  • A candidate must have attained the age of 21 (twenty-one) years and must not be above the age of 42 (forty-two) years on the 1st day of January, 2026 i.e., he/she must have been born not earlier than 2nd January, 1984 and not later than 1st January, 2005.
  • The upper age-limit prescribed above shall be relaxed by 05 (five) years for candidates belonging to the categories of Scheduled Castes (S.C.), Women & Ex-Servicemen and by 10 years for Persons with Disabilities whose permanent disability is 40% (Forty percent) or more.
  • Persons with Disabilities belonging to SC category are eligible for cumulative age relaxation benefit of 15 years.
  • Date of birth entered in the High School Certificate or equivalent certificate issued by the concerned Board/Council will only be accepted by the Commission.

Educational Qualification:

  • A candidate must hold at least a Second-Class Master’s Degree in Geology or Applied Geology or Earth Science from any recognized University in India.

Knowledge in Odia:

A candidate must be able to speak, read and write Odia and must have:

  1. Passed M.E. School or higher examination with Odia as a language subject; or
  2. Passed Matriculation or equivalent examination with Odia as a medium of examination in non-language subject; or
  3. Passed in Odia as a language subject in the final examination of Class VII from a school or educational institution recognized by the Government of Odisha or the Central Government; or
  4. Passed a test in Odia in Middle English School standard conducted by the School & Mass Education Department of the Government of Odisha / Board of Secondary Education, Odisha.

Salary Details (ଦରମା ବିବରଣୀ)

  • Recruitment to 05 (Five) posts of Geologist in Group-A (JB) of Odisha Ground Water Geologist Service under Water Resources Department is in the scale of pay of Rs. 56,100/- (Level 12, Cell 1 of Pay Matrix under Rule-3 of the ORSP Rules, 2017), with usual Dearness and other Allowances as may be sanctioned by the Government of Odisha from time to time.

Examination Fee Details:

  • As per Odisha payment of recruitment examination fees and Refund Rules, 2025, candidates other than SC, ST, and PwD category shall have to pay the examination fee amounting to Rs. 700/- (Rupees Seven Hundred) only through online mode while filling the Online Application Form.
  • The examination fees paid shall be refunded only to those candidates who actually appear in both Paper-I & Paper-II of the Written Examination.
  • Applications without payment of examination fees (except SC/ ST/ PwD candidates) will be taken as incomplete and outrightly be rejected.

Job location (କାର୍ଯ୍ୟ ସ୍ଥାନ)

  • Place of Postings: Under Department of Water Resources, Government of Odisha.
  • Place of Examination: The venue of the Written Examination for the posts of Geologist will be located at Kataka and/or Bhubaneswar.

ଚୟନ ପ୍ରକ୍ରିୟା (Selection Process)

The selection of candidates for recruitment to the posts of Geologist shall be made through competitive examination to be conducted in two stages; viz- Written Examination (Objective Type) and Personality Test / Interview.

A. Written Examination (450 Marks):

  • Paper-I (General Studies & Awareness): 150 Marks, 75 Questions, Duration: 1 & 1/2 hours.
  • Paper-II (Specialization Paper – Geology): 300 Marks, 150 Questions, Duration: 3 hours.
  • Marking Scheme: Objective Type Multiple Choice Questions (MCQ Pattern) with OMR Evaluation. For each correct answer 2 marks will be awarded. For each wrong response/answer, 25% marks will be deducted from the marks awarded for correct answer. For unattempted questions, “zero” mark will be given.
  • Shortlisting: Candidates who obtain minimum qualifying marks will be shortlisted for the Personality Test / Interview in the ratio of about 1:2 of the advertised vacancies.

B. Personality Test / Interview (50 Marks):

  • The Personality Test / Interview will carry 50 Marks.

C. Select List:

  • The Select List will be drawn in order of merit based on the Aggregate Marks secured both in the Written Examination and Interview (out of 500 Marks).

ଆବେଦନ କରିବାର ପ୍ରଣାଳୀ (How to Apply)

  1. Candidates must carefully go through the details of this Advertisement available in the Website of OPSC before filling up online application form.
  2. Candidates must apply online through the concerned Website of the OPSC: https://www.opsc.gov.in. Applications received through any other mode would not be accepted and summarily rejected.
  3. Upload scanned image of latest passport size photograph along with scanned image of full signature and scanned image of Left-hand Thumb Impression (LTI) in the online application form.
  4. Candidates should keep at least four copies of latest passport size photograph which is uploaded to the online application form for future use.
  5. On successful submission of the online Registration, a unique Permanent Public Service Account Number (PPSAN) will be assigned to the applicant.
  6. Candidates are required to take a printout of the finally submitted online Registration/Re-registration and finally submitted Online Application forms and put his/her signature under the declaration for submission to OPSC along with copies of requisite certificates & documents as and when asked.

Candidates who qualify in the written examination will be required to bring the hard copy of online application form along with copies of following certificates/documents (self-certified with full signature and date: “Submitted by me and Certified as Genuine and has not been cancelled”) along with originals for verification:

  1. Four (04) recent passport size photographs (unsigned & unattested) uploaded with online application form.
  2. H.S.C. or equivalent certificate in support of declaration of age.
  3. Master’s Degree Certificate in Geology or Applied Geology or Earth Science from any recognized University in India.
  4. Mark-lists in support of all examinations (H.S.C to Master’s Degree) passed including fail marks, if any.
  5. Caste Certificate by birth in support of claim as S.C. (wherever applicable).
  6. Required Odia Test Pass Certificate / Certificate issued by School Principal / Board of Secondary Education, Odisha.
  7. Disability Certificate (indicating percentage of permanent disability i.e. 40% or more) issued by Medical Board.
  8. Ex-Servicemen Release Certificate (wherever applicable).
  9. No Objection Certificate (NOC) issued by the Competent Authority/ Head of Office (for Government servants).
  10. Proof of identity i.e. EPIC/ Driver’s License/ Passport/ PAN Card / standard identity document.
  11. Equivalence qualification rule/authority document (if claiming equivalent qualification).

ଗୁରୁତ୍ୱପୂର୍ଣ୍ଣ ନିର୍ଦ୍ଦେଶାବଳୀ (Important instructions)

  • Grounds of Rejection: Incomplete online application, non-submission of hard copy during verification, unsigned declaration, failure in Odia test, age/qualification mismatch by closing date, non-payment of fee, or submission of false/fake certificates.
  • Odia Requirement: Must be able to speak, read and write Odia and have passed ME School / Class VII / Matriculation test standard in Odia.
  • Medical Board Examination: Every candidate selected for appointment shall be examined by the Medical Board.
  • NPS Scheme: All persons appointed under the Government of Odisha on or after 1st January, 2005 shall be covered by the defined Contributory Pension Scheme. Submission of NPS application is mandatory at the time of joining.
  • Code of Conduct: Provisions of the Odisha Conduct of Examination Act, 1988 apply. Malpractice or unfair practices will result in debarment and legal prosecution.
