Online applications are invited from eligible Indian citizens who meet the prescribed qualifications and conditions as on 01.07.2025, for the preparation of a panel to fill vacancies in the post of Court Master (Shorthand), a gazetted position, in the Registry of the Supreme Court of India.

Vacancies: 30 posts of Court Master (Shorthand)
- UR: 16, SC: 04, ST: 02, OBC (Non-Creamy Layer): 08
Pay Scale: Level 11 of the Pay Matrix, with an initial basic salary of ₹67,700/- plus admissible allowances.
Age Limit: 30 to 45 years.
Essential Qualifications:
- Degree from a recognized university in India.
- Proficiency in English shorthand at 120 w.p.m.
- Knowledge of computer operations with a typing speed of 40 w.p.m.
Experience: Minimum of 5 years’ regular service in the post of Private Secretary/Senior PA/PA/Senior Stenographer in Government, PSUs, or Statutory bodies.
Examination Scheme
- English Shorthand Test – 120 w.p.m. for 7 minutes, with 45 minutes for transcription.
- Maximum errors allowed: 5%
- Grading: 100% (no error), 90% (1%), 80% (2%), 70% (3%), 60% (4%), 50% (5%).
- Marks: 100 | Minimum Qualifying: 50
- Objective Written Test – 100 questions (2 hours)
- English (25), GK (25), Constitution – Judiciary (25), Supreme Court Rules, 2013 (15), Computers (10).
- Marks: 100 | Minimum Qualifying: 50 (General), 45 (Reserved)
- Computer Typing Test – Minimum 40 w.p.m.
- Error allowance: General – 8 words (2%), Reserved – 12 words (3%).
- Duration: 10 minutes | Marks: 20 | Minimum Qualifying: 10 (General), 5 (Reserved)
- Interview – 30 marks | Minimum Qualifying: 15 (General), 13 (Reserved).
- Additional Weightage: Candidates with a Law degree (LLB/BGL) from a recognized Indian University will receive an extra 3 marks.
Note: Vacancies are tentative and may increase or decrease.
Age Relaxation
Permissible as per Government of India rules for SC, ST, OBC (NCL), PwD, Ex-servicemen, and dependents of Freedom Fighters. No upper age limit for departmental candidates of the Supreme Court Registry. No relaxation for those working in other government departments.
Shortlisting Process for Supreme Court of India Recruitment 2025
- Candidates qualifying both the Shorthand and Objective Written Tests may be shortlisted for the Typing Test in the ratio of 1:10.
- Those clearing the Typing Test may be invited for the Interview in the ratio of 1:3.
- Final empanelment will be merit-based, subject to interview performance.
- Placement in the panel does not guarantee appointment.
Reservation
As per Rule 4A of the Supreme Court Officers and Servants (Conditions of Service and Conduct) Rules, 1961. Applicable only to SC, ST, and OBC (NCL).

- Fee: ₹1500/- (General), ₹750/- (SC/ST/OBC/Ex-servicemen/PwD/Dependent of Freedom Fighter), plus bank charges.
- Payment via UCO Bank online gateway only.
- No offline applications accepted.
- Dates for online registration will be announced on the Supreme Court website.
Test Centers
- Shorthand and Written Tests: Delhi/NCR, Mumbai, Kolkata, Chennai (same day).
- Typing Test and Interview: Delhi only.
- Candidates must indicate city preferences, but may be reassigned as needed.
General Instructions
- Eligibility verification will be done at the interview stage; admission to earlier stages is provisional.
- Upload scanned photo, signature, and documents while applying. No changes allowed after submission.
- Printout of the application form is for personal record only.
- Application number must be preserved for admit card download and future communication.
- Equivalency certificates required for non-standard qualifications.
- Reserved candidates qualifying under relaxed norms will be considered only against reserved posts.
- OBC candidates must provide valid NCL certificate as on 01.07.2025.
