Eligibility Criteria

A highly respected someone with unwavering integrity who has worked in public administration, law, academia, social work, or management for at least ten years. It will be required to have prior experience working with individuals or community organizations.
One shouldn’t belong to a prohibited group or political party.
Each applicant must submit a declaration to this effect with their application.
The individual must be physically fit and able to perform field trips, inspections, and visits to isolated rural areas within the district.
As of 30 April 2025, no one should be older than 65.

Empanelment procedure

The State Government will nominate the district’s Ombudsman based on the suggestions made by the state selection committee.

Remuneration

The Ombudsman can receive up to Rs. 45,000 (forty-five thousand) a month in compensation, with a maximum of Rs. 2250 every session.

Nature and Tenure of Appointment

The Ombudsman’s sitting frequency is determined by need and cannot be fixed. The tenure is of two years, which may be extended no more than twice by one year each in accordance with a performance review procedure or until the incumbent reaches the age of sixty-eight (68), whichever comes first.

Removal

On the Selection Committee’s suggestion, the State Government may dismiss the Ombudsman for poor performance.

Location and Jurisdiction

Each Ombudsman’s territorial authority will be specified by the State Government in terms of a district, and the MGNREGS office will be situated in the district head quarter.
