The official notification for filling up vacancy at Ekalavya Model Residential School Liang Sundargarh for teaching and non-teaching post has been released on 07-04-2025.
About Ekalavya Model Residential School(EMRS): It was launched in 1997–98 with the aim of providing quality education to ST children living in remote areas, helping them access higher and professional education opportunities and secure employment in various fields. These schools focus on comprehensive development in addition to academic education. Each EMRS is built to accommodate 480 students, providing education from Class VI to Class XII. Until now, funding for school construction and recurring expenses was provided to State Governments through grants under Article 275(1) of the Constitution.
To reinforce the EMRS initiative, it was decided that by 2022, an Eklavya Model Residential School would be set up in every block where the ST population exceeds 50% and there are at least 20,000 tribal inhabitants. These schools are designed to match the standards of Navodaya Vidyalayas and will include specialized facilities to promote local art and culture, in addition to offering training in sports and skill development. According to the 2011 Census, India has 564 such sub-districts, but only 102 are currently served by an EMRS. As a result, 462 more schools are required to be established by 2022.
Ekalavya Model Residential Schools (EMRS) are established to uplift ST children by providing them with quality education along with residential facilities. In Odisha, the Scheduled Tribe population is spread over 69,614 square kilometers out of the state’s total geographical area of 1,55,707 square kilometers. The state is home to 62 Scheduled Tribe communities, accounting for 9.6% of India’s total ST population, including 13 Particularly Vulnerable Tribal Groups (PVTGs). Scheduled Tribes make up approximately 23% of Odisha’s overall population, with the majority residing in 17 districts. Compared to other states, Odisha records a higher incidence of poverty among its ST communities.
The nutritional levels and overall health status of Scheduled Tribe communities are generally lower compared to the mainstream population. Low literacy rates among tribal groups have contributed to their isolation from modern society. Factors such as deep-rooted superstitions, traditional rituals, and spiritual beliefs play a significant role in limiting educational advancement. Additionally, language barriers, inadequate guidance, communication gaps, and a sense of fear or alienation have further hindered the integration of STs into contemporary society.
