Brief Revenshaw University: About In 2006, Ravenshaw University was established on November 15th. It was an upgrade of Ravenshaw College, one of the biggest and oldest colleges in India, which was founded in 1868 and later became an independent institution with a “A” grade from the NAAC and CPE status from the UGC. With all of its outstanding academic accomplishments and unrelenting academic endeavors, the college has already established a unique reputation in India and abroad. In a way, the history of this magnificent institution is the history of contemporary Orissa. It was the birthplace of concepts that strengthened nationalism and national cohesion, encouraged social mobilization, and prepared the way for the fight for liberation.
The grand hall of this institution served as a historical theater when Orissa was declared a separate province on April 1, 1936. It also housed the state’s first legislative assembly until independence, when it was moved to Bhubaneswar, the new capital. The Union Jack was brought down by the students of this university as a symbol of their patriotic fervor during the Quit India Movement in 1942.
Calcutta University was the college’s first affiliation; Patna University followed in 1917; and Utkal University was the college’s final affiliation in 1943. Before moving to its current location in Vani Vihar, Bhubaneswar, Utkal University operated out of this campus. Several of the state’s most illustrious figures attended this college. The Orissa State Museum, Madhusudan Law College, and Utkal University are all subsidiaries of this institution that will eventually get their own status.
With the introduction of the M.A. English course in 1922, post-graduate instruction began. The Government of India granted the institution National Honour in 1978 by issuing a commemorative stamp in recognition of its rich history. The largest library in Orissa is the one named after the Raja Sahib of Kanika. This institution is a rare example of Victorian architecture in the nation, in addition to being the pinnacle of education.Twenty of the university’s 27 departments are post-graduate programs. There are fourteen departments that provide M.Phil. programs, and all of them have space for Ph.D. and D.Litt. programs. The university currently offers 27 undergraduate honors courses and 23 postgraduate courses with research resources.
