Project Background: ECRICC

The Enhancing Climate Resilience of India’s Coastal Communities (ECRICC) project is a joint initiative of the Government of India and the Green Climate Fund (GCF). Its core mission is to enhance the resilience of the lives and livelihoods of the most vulnerable population, particularly women, in India’s coastal areas. This is achieved using an eco-system-centered and community-based approach. The person selected will be

responsible for implementation of Project activities in the operational area.

The project is being implemented in 7 landscapes across 4 coastal districts in Odisha (Puri, Kendrapara, Ganjam, and Balasore). Key interventions include:

  • Eco-system restoration
  • Climate adaptive livelihoods in the agriculture sector
  • Fishery related interventions (where you come in!)

These actions aim to enhance the livelihood resilience of coastal vulnerable communities with diversified and enhanced income. The Forest, Environment and Climate Change Department, Govt. of Odisha is the nodal department for overall supervision and implementation.

Project Outputs:

The project will enhance the resilience of coastal communities through three inter-linked outputs:

  1. Output 1: Enhanced resilience of coastal and marine ecosystems and their services.
  2. Output 2: Climate adaptive livelihoods for enhanced resilience of vulnerable coastal communities.
  3. Output 3: Strengthened coastal and marine governance and institutional frameworks for climate resilient management of coastal areas.

This will be achieved by protecting and restoring ecosystems (like mangroves, salt marshes, sea grass), helping communities adopt climate-adaptive livelihoods and value chains, and mainstreaming EbA (Ecosystem-based Adaptation) principles into coastal planning.
