About Central Institute of Petrochemicals Engineering & Technology (CIPET): Originally named the Central Institute of Plastics Engineering & Technology, it was established in 1968 by the Government of India with assistance from the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) in Chennai. The primary aim of establishing this specialized institute was to train professionals in various fields of Plastics Engineering & Technology, as there were no similar institutions in the country at that time. The International Labour Organization (ILO) acted as the executing agency for this initiative. During the initial phase from 1968 to 1973, the institute met its goals and was recognized as one of the most successful UNDP projects implemented globally.
All CIPET centers are furnished with advanced and exceptional facilities focused on Design, CAD/CAM/CAE, Tooling & Mould Manufacturing, Plastics Processing, Testing, and Quality Assurance, supported by financial assistance from the Government of India. To keep pace with the dynamic and demanding requirements of the plastics industry, we consistently enhance and modernize our machinery, equipment, and technology. The Institute has developed over the years, forging stronger connections with industries aimed at producing innovative, resource-efficient, and marketable plastic-based solutions.
CIPET have consistently led efforts to enhance technological capabilities while continually expanding our capacities and utilizing our expertise, skills, and competencies to address the changing and developing requirements of the industry. Throughout the last five decades, CIPET has gained acknowledgment for our collaboration with numerous industry clients in providing Technology Support Services related to design, tooling, plastics processing, and testing and quality assurance. This includes partnerships with governmental organizations, as well as public and private industry sectors, both within India and internationally.
